Counseling Information and Referral Services

The State Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Services Program is authorized by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Rehabilitation Act), as amended by Title IV of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).

 

These programs are a partnership between each state and the federal government to provide services for individuals with disabilities, consistent with their strengths, resources, priorities, concerns, abilities, capabilities, interests, and informed choice, so that they may prepare for, and engage in, competitive integrated employment or supported employment, and achieve economic self-sufficiency.

 

The GVRA’s Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) program’s primary goal is to assist people with disabilities in making informed choices concerning their careers so that they can become successfully employed long term.

 

Services may include: 

  • Vocational Evaluation and Planning 

  • Career Counseling and Guidance 

  • Job Coaching 

  • Job Placement 

  • On-the-Job Training 

  • Training and Education After High School 

  • Job Site Assessment and Accommodations 

  • Supported and Customized Employment 

  • Assistive Technology Assessments and Devices 

  • Medical and Psychological Assessments 

  • Time-limited Medical and/or Psychological Treatment 

  • Transportation 

  • Adaptive Driver Training 

  • Work Readiness 

  • Training including tuition, related fees, required textbooks 

  • Modifications to homes, vehicles and worksites 

  • Self-Employment 

You may be eligible for VR services if you meet all of the following requirements: 

  1. You have a physical or mental impairment;

  2. Your physical or mental impairment constitutes or results in a substantial impediment to employment;

  3. You require VR services in order to prepare for, secure, retain, advance in or regain competitive integrated employment; and

  4. You can benefit from the provision of VR services in terms of achieving competitive integrated employment outcome.
