Post-Secondary

GVRA Post-Secondary Assistance
Before GVRA can commit to payment, you must provide a final student account showing all financial assistance. GVRA will pay the school directly, and you are responsible for any remaining costs. If your school’s account balance is lower than the allowed amount, GVRA will only cover the difference. Student loans are optional.
All payments for academic training must be authorized on your Individualized Plan for Employment (IPE) before classes begin. If your school is not an approved vendor, the approval process may take additional time.
The Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency (GVRA) offers students with disabilities the opportunity to attend select colleges that provide Certified Transition Programs (CTP). These programs focus on enhancing students' skills in Work Readiness, Work-Based Learning, Career Exploration, and Self-Advocacy.
Expectations for College Students
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
All students must apply for financial aid annually by completing the FAFSA. After submission, you must provide a copy of the FAFSA Submission Summary (formerly known as the SAR) to your VR counselor. The FAFSA application is available online at www.studentaid.gov.
Timely and accurate completion of the FAFSA is crucial to securing financial aid. If you are ineligible for financial aid due to outstanding school debts or defaulted student loans, VR cannot assist with school costs until you are in good standing with the financial aid office. This includes either repaying the loan, setting up a repayment plan, or obtaining a deferral. Note that VR is unable to pay off any debt.
Enroll Full-Time
You must be enrolled full-time according to your school's definition. Typically, this means 12 credit hours for an undergraduate program and 9 credit hours for a graduate program. Any exceptions must be discussed and agreed upon with your counselor. Possible exceptions include situations where a full course load is unnecessary to complete your program or when required courses are unavailable due to scheduling conflicts.
Students are not permitted to take less than a full course load for more than two terms during their program.
Maintain a Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA)
- Undergraduate students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 to continue receiving funding from VR.
- Graduate students must meet the minimum GPA requirement set by their program.
If your school’s GPA requirement exceeds VR’s policy, you must meet the higher school standard. You will be given one probationary semester to raise your cumulative GPA. If you do not meet the required GPA after the probationary period, VR will not support your training until your GPA returns to the required level.
