GROW - Getting Ready for Opportunities in Work

G.R.O.W

The Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency's Getting Ready for Opportunities in Work (G.R.O.W) program is a weeklong, minimum of 25 service hours, initiative designed to provide participants with comprehensive exposure to all five Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) required areas under WIOA, equipping them with essential skills and knowledge for future success. The G.R.O.W. Program is designed to equip participants with the essential skills and knowledge needed for their future success. Below, is an example schedule outlining the day-to day training and activities participants will engage in throughout the program.

Monday – Self-Advocacy

Participants will learn the following: 

  • Understanding and requesting on-the-job accommodations
  • Knowing when and how to disclose your disability
  • Identifying how your disability impacts them at work
  • Responsibility for online and social media activity

Thursday – Work Based Learning

Participants will learn the following: 

  • Virtual/ in-person tours
  • Connect students with mentors from businesses providers used for CWAT
  • Presentations by employers
  • Possible community day of service/volunteering jobs

Tuesday – Work Readiness Training

  • Job seeking skills (resumes and applications) *all participants leave with a skills-based resume
  • Work Behaviors (sexual harassment, transportation plan, cell phone use, grooming, dress codes, interpersonal relationships (internal and external customer service), time management
  • Common risks to successful job retention

Friday – Counseling on Post-Secondary Enrollment

Participants will learn the following: 

  • Is college the correct path?
  • TCSG/USG
  • Disability Services (Accommodations, Assistive Technology)
  • FAFSA & types of aid
  • Applying to technical schools and colleges
  • Inclusive Post-Secondary
  • When to start Planning for College

Wednesday – Job Exploration

Participants will learn the following: 

  • Local labor market information
  • Interest Inventory
  • Panel of local employers
  • Learn more about job requirements and work environments

Interested in G.R.O.W?

Are you interested in the GROW program?

The GROW Program is a Pre-ETS (Pre-Employment Transition Services) opportunity designed to help young individuals prepare for the future. The G.R.O.W. Program is delivered through GVRA's providers, offering Pre-ETS services to participants.  To be eligible, participants must meet the following criteria: 

  • Be between the ages of 14 and 21 (up to their 22nd birthday)
  • Be enrolled in secondary or post-secondary education
  • Not be a graduating senior unless they have received an acceptance letter to a college or university
