The Power of Support: Joey Brown Featured on CBS Atlanta
Remember Joey Brown, who was featured in GVRA’s Success Story series last July? After surviving an explosion that burned more than 85% of his body, Joey continued working toward his employment goals. In 2024, he reapplied to GVRA and began receiving supported employment services through Wiregrass Resource Group.
GVRA Public Outreach Coordinator Christopher Myers wrote about Joey’s inspiring journey in a success story that later led to Joey being featured on CBS Atlanta. During the segment, Joey discussed his recovery, resilience, and employment at Central High School in Carrollton, Georgia.
Joey’s story highlights the impact of determination, employment support, and partnerships in helping individuals with disabilities achieve their career goals. “I enjoy working,” Joey says. “All my coworkers are nice to me. Many people who are disabled don’t want to talk about their disability but that’s not me. I want everyone to know my story. I believe all people can overcome obstacles in life---just look at me!”
