Removing barriers and fostering a culture of respect and inclusion were the focus of GVRA's Disability Awareness & Sensitivity Training, presented by Bobby Dodd Institute (BDI). The training was held on Tuesday, July 28, from 10 a.m. to noon on the 20th floor of Floyd room and was offered in both in-person and virtual formats.

Designed for GVRA managers and supervisors, the training equipped leadership with practical strategies to create a more inclusive, empathetic, and accessible workplace while strengthening their ability to better serve Georgians with disabilities.

Director of Administration Stephanie Aponte opened the session by thanking staff for their dedication and commitment to GVRA's mission. She expressed her appreciation for the meaningful impact employees make every day in the lives of individuals with disabilities across Georgia.

Provider Relations Administrator Jeff Allen introduced the Bobby Dodd Institute presenters, including Todd Hermon, Vice President of Development & Community Relations; Ilond Tshipau, Vice President of Operational and Program Services; Anna Maki, Director of Program Services; Kylie Moore, Senior Coordinator of Special Projects and Communications; and the Marketing and Communications team.

Throughout the training, BDI presenters shared best practices for disability awareness, person-centered communication, and accessibility. They encouraged participants to recognize unconscious barriers, use respectful and inclusive language, and adopt approaches that promote dignity, equity, and meaningful engagement for both clients and colleagues.

The session reinforced GVRA's ongoing commitment to cultivating an inclusive workplace and ensuring employees have the knowledge and tools to provide exceptional service to Georgians with disabilities.
