New Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency Executive Director confirmed unanimously by Board

For Immediate Release

(Atlanta) - The Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Services (GVRS) Board Tuesday confirmed Chris Wells as executive director of the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency (GVRA). Gov. Brian Kemp appointed Mr. Wells to lead GVRA in its mission of employment and independence for Georgians with disabilities. The Board's vote was unanimous.

“Though I have only known Chris a short time, I firmly believe he is the leader GVRA needs right now as we continue on our path to a stronger organization and a brighter future,” said GVRS Board Chairman Tom Wilson. “I have heard nothing but praise for his work ethic, his willingness to negotiate and work for positive outcomes, and his commitment to serving our state.”

Mr. Wells joins GVRA from the Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget (OPB), where he served as the Director of the Physical and Economic Development Division. Prior to OPB, he held several other policy and budget positions both in Georgia and South Carolina. Wells expressed his excitement for an opportunity to work on behalf of constituents with disabilities.

“I am honored that Gov. Kemp has put his faith in me to help GVRA advance its mission of employment and independence for all Georgians,” said Wells. “I want to promote a culture of open communication with our staff and earn their trust. Together, I truly believe this team has an opportunity to create a client-focused agency and better meet the needs of all our customers."

Before entering government service, Mr. Wells taught High School mathematics. He is a member of Georgia’s Employee Benefit Plan Council, a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, and a graduate of the Leadership Georgia Class of 2019. He holds bachelor’s degrees in Political Science and Mathematics from Francis Marion University, a master’s degree in Public Administration from Augusta University, and has completed coursework toward a Ph.D. in Political Science at Georgia State University. He and his wife, Shameka, live in Mableton, Georgia, with their dog, Duke.

Mr. Wells officially begins in his new capacity effective immediately.
