May Recap: P2P Partnerships Continue to Grow and Flourish!

In May, Pathways to Partnerships (P2P) celebrated continued growth and collaboration across Houston County, marking a season of meaningful engagement and student achievement. A key highlight was the exciting new partnership between Disability Connections and the GVRA District 6 Transition Liaison, bringing valuable GVRA resources to P2P middle school students. Thanks to the support of Houston County Schools and the innovative outreach from Disability Connections, students were introduced to independent living skills and tools designed to support their transition into high school and beyond. Special thanks to Ms. Oldaker, GVRA District 6 Transition Liaison, for inspiring and informing these remarkable students. Her efforts reflect our shared belief: One Team, One Dream, Better Together—empowering youth every step of the way.

This year, Pathways to Partnerships cultivated dynamic collaborations among GVRA, Houston County Schools, and Disability Connections (local CIL). Students from Warner Robins Middle School and Feagin Mill Middle School were recognized for completing the Pathway to Dreams curriculum, which offered early instruction in vocational training and soft skills development.

Each student received their own copy of Dream Chasers—a motivational book designed to inspire them to pursue their aspirations with confidence and resilience.

Adding a special touch to the school year, Mrs. Hunter created a personalized P2P Yearbook for her 8th-grade students. The yearbook captures photos from P2P sessions, weekly highlights showcasing learned skills, and even a special autograph page for peers to celebrate their journey together.

The Work Continued in Bridging the Gap

Centers for Independent Living peer mentors and VR Counselors continued to work closely to support participating youth in reaching their independent living and work integration skill goals, as well as their post-secondary and/or employment goal(s). The Bridging the Gap Team is planning for the upcoming June Bridging the Gap: Summer Dreamers Camp. Stay tuned next month to see the awesome camp in action!
