GVRA Day at Fort Valley State University Seeks to Empower Students with Disabilities for Future Success
[Atlanta, GA] – The Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency, in collaboration with Fort Valley State University (FVSU), is pleased to host GVRA Day at FVSU, an exciting educational event dedicated to 11th and 12th grade students with disabilities.
The event will take place Monday, March 24 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the campus of the university and will provide a unique opportunity for more than 150 students to explore career pathways, develop workplace readiness skills, and discover the benefits of pursuing higher education as part of GVRA’s Vocational Rehabilitation Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) program.
GVRA Day aims to equip students with the necessary tools, knowledge, and resources to navigate the transition from high school to adulthood, with a special focus on workplace readiness, self-advocacy, and work-based learning. Students also will be exposed to post-secondary opportunities at Fort Valley State University.
“GVRA Day is a pivotal event for Georgia students with disabilities as they prepare to step into higher education and the workforce,” says GVRA Executive Director Chris Wells. “Our goal is to not only help them develop important skills for workplace success but also to introduce them to the opportunities that await them at a state college or university. By bringing these elements together in one event, we are giving them the tools they need to thrive in the next phase of their lives.”
Throughout the event, students will engage in interactive activities that emphasize the importance of self-advocacy, career exploration, and workplace skills. The day will culminate in a campus tour, allowing students to explore the many academic programs and resources offered by FVSU, with a focus on how the institution can support their educational and professional goals.
GVRA Day is an important part of GVRA’s Pre-ETS program, which is designed to prepare students for the demands of the modern workforce while fostering the skills necessary for self-sufficiency and independent living.
