Message from GVRS Board Chair Tom Wilson on new agency head
Welcoming GVRA Executive Director Chris Wells
I am pleased to share with you that today, members of the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Services (GVRS) Board and I had the honor of confirming the appointment of Chris Wells as agency Executive Director. Though I have only known Chris a short time, I firmly believe he is the leader GVRA needs right now as we continue on our path to a stronger organization and a brighter future.
As is apparent from his background, Chris is a committed public servant. Both as an educator and then as a government policy and budget professional, he has focused throughout his career on improving the lives of others. He also offers extensive experience in labor and workforce development, giving him a starting advantage as we target better long-term planning and drive our operational decisions with data. I have spoken with several individuals who have worked with Chris and have heard nothing but praise for his work ethic, his willingness to negotiate and work for positive outcomes, and his commitment to serving our state.
The past several months have brought significant change, both to GVRA as an agency and to the way we do business. Through your response to COVID-19, you have demonstrated your ability to adapt and to serve clients in new and innovative ways. I am also appreciative of your eagerness to provide the input that generated Accenture’s recommendations for improved processes and a more customer-focused organizational structure. Simply put, I believe we have better tools than ever at our disposal to move toward positive progress, and Chris Wells has the experience, skills and dedication to help us achieve our goals.
I know you will join the Board and me in making Chris feel welcome, and I ask that you support him as he strives to advance employment opportunities and independence for people with disabilities in Georgia.
