MEMO FROM SEAN T. CASEY: Certified Rehabilitation Counselor Appreciation Day

March 22, 2018

Some of you, as you go about your very busy days managing caseloads and counseling clients, may not even have been aware that this is National Certified Rehabilitation Counselors' Week. That is probably in part because you are too busy to pause and pat yourself on the back and also very likely because those of you who have dedicated your lives to direct service entered the profession expecting little and wanting to help so many. The week-long celebration leads up to a designated day, today, in honor of those certified professionals who assist individuals with disabilities in their career pursuits.

I don't have to tell you a CRC is more than a caseload manager. So many of you become friends and mentors to your clients. A few days ago an individual reflecting after five successful decades in the workforce, commented that her counselor was the first person to ask her what she wanted to do in life. Her story is not uncommon. That's the impact you make on your clients every day, most often not even realizing it.

I only wanted to take a moment to say thank you. Thank you on behalf of this organization and also on behalf of the individuals, parents, spouses, children and friends whose lives you change, because to you a client is so much more than a case file. We would like to feature as many of your offices and CRC teams as possible on Facebook and Twitter tomorrow to wrap up the week. Please take a moment for a group photo and send to Communications@gvs.ga.gov.  Also, let us know of any ways your location chooses to thank the CRCs among you.

Not just today, but every day, your contributions are noticed and appreciated. Thank you for all you do, and thank you for letting me serve and support you.
